Angelina Jolie has taken legal action against Brad Pitt in response to their ongoing dispute over Château Miraval, a winery they purchased together in France more than ten years ago.
In the countersuit, obtained by Variety, Jolie's legal team reveals new information about an alleged incident that occurred on a plane in September 2016 involving Pitt, Jolie, and their children.
Earlier this year, Pitt filed a lawsuit against Jolie, claiming that she violated his “contractual rights” by selling her share of Château Miraval without informing him.
Jolie's lawyers argue in the countersuit that negotiations regarding the sale broke down when Pitt insisted she sign a nondisclosure agreement that would prevent her from speaking publicly about his alleged physical and emotional abuse towards her and their children.
According to the countersuit, Pitt allegedly choked one of their children and struck another in the face during the altercation in 2016.
Jolie's lawyer states that the disagreement began when Pitt accused her of being too submissive towards their kids, leading to a fight in the airplane's bathroom.
The countersuit describes Pitt grabbing Jolie by the head and shaking her before pushing her into the bathroom wall.
He then punched the ceiling multiple times while Jolie left the bathroom.
The document further claims that Pitt attempted to physically harm one of their children after the child defended Jolie.
In an effort to stop Pitt, Jolie grabbed him from behind, but he threw himself backward into the seats, injuring Jolie's back and elbow.
The countersuit reports that the children rushed in to protect each other, with some pleading for Pitt to stop.
Throughout the incident, the children were frightened, and many were crying.
Following the altercation, Jolie arranged separate transportation at the airport to take her and the children to a hotel, leaving Pitt behind.
She later woke him up to inform him of their departure, resulting in another confrontation where Pitt screamed at her and pushed her down once again.
In August, it was revealed that Jolie was responsible for an anonymous lawsuit filed in 2016, in which the plaintiff claimed to have been assaulted by her “then-husband” on a private plane.
Jolie informed an FBI agent about the alleged physical and verbal assault against her and the children by Pitt.
The agent met with an assistant U.S. attorney but ultimately decided not to pursue criminal charges.
As a result, Jolie anonymously filed a Freedom of Information Act suit against the FBI to obtain documents related to the federal investigation into Pitt.
Jolie's lawyer now states in the countersuit that the investigating FBI agent concluded there was enough evidence to charge Pitt with a federal crime for his actions on that day.
Variety has reached out to Pitt's attorney and representative for additional comments on the matter.
