In a disappointing outcome for Anna Nicole Smith’s estate, their final attempt to obtain her late husband’s fortune has been rejected.
This comes seven years after the tragic passing of the famous Playboy model and reality TV star.
A federal judge in Orange County made the decision on Monday, dismissing the effort to secure approximately $44 million from the estate of Texas billionaire J. Howard Marshall.
Marshall, who married Smith in 1994 at the age of 89 while she was 26, passed away the following year.
His will stated that his $1.6 billion estate would be left to his son, with nothing allocated to Smith.
Smith, known by her legal name of Vickie Lynn Marshall, contested the will, arguing that her husband had promised to leave her over $300 million in addition to the cash and gifts she received during their 14-month marriage.
However, a Houston jury determined that Marshall was mentally sound and not influenced by any undue pressure when he wrote the will.
Throughout almost two decades, Smith’s attempts to overturn Marshall’s will and trust and claim money from his estate were repeatedly rejected by the Texas bankruptcy court, as well as local and federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court.
