The Supreme Court has dealt a blow to the estate of Anna Nicole Smith in its attempt to secure a share of her late husband’s $1.6 billion fortune, according to the Associated Press.
The legal battle centers around J. Howard Marshall, a Texas billionaire and Smith’s husband.
Following their 1994 marriage, Marshall passed away the following year, leaving his entire estate to his son, E. Pierce Marshall, with nothing for Smith.
This decision sparked a heated and protracted legal dispute between Smith and Marshall’s son.
Initially, a California bankruptcy court granted Smith $475 million from Marshall’s estate.
However, the 9th U.S.
Circuit Court of Appeals later ruled that the bankruptcy court did not have jurisdiction to make a ruling on a matter unrelated to bankruptcy law.
On Thursday, the Supreme Court upheld this ruling, effectively invalidating the bankruptcy court’s decision.
Tragically, Smith passed away in 2007 due to an overdose of prescription drugs.
Despite her death, the legal battle continued on behalf of her four-year-old daughter, Dannielynn.
Smith, known for being a Playboy Playmate, also gained fame through her own reality series, The Anna Nicole Show, which aired on E!
