Raffaello Follieri, the former boyfriend of Anne Hathaway for four years, has decided to share details about their past romantic involvement.
The Italian real estate developer served a four-year sentence after admitting guilt to 14 charges of wire fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy.
Essentially, the convicted swindler was purportedly using funds from others to support his lavish lifestyle and shower Hathaway with gifts.
According to reports from The Daily Mail, Follieri splurged £87,000 (AUD $162,000) on a private jet to take him and his girlfriend to a New Year's Eve celebration at Oscar De La Renta's residence in the Dominican Republic.
In a recent interview with the same publication, Follieri reminisces about his previous relationship with Hathaway, affectionately calling her “Annie.”
He describes their time together as “fiery,” marked by intense arguments and reconciliations.
The duo first crossed paths in 2004 and continued dating for four years until Follieri's arrest in June 2008 on fraud charges.
Recalling the night of his arrest, Follieri shares, “Annie called me from Los Angeles where she was busy with press engagements for the movie Get Smart.
We had a ten-minute conversation discussing her return home.”
He recollects Annie's parting words as, “I love you forever,” before their call ended at 2 am on June 24, 2008.
By 6 am, he found himself under arrest and never communicated with Hathaway again.
Expressing his perspective on the situation, Follieri reflects, “I believe she prioritized her career over our relationship.
She made a professional choice.
I don't harbor bitterness; you can see it in my eyes.
I carry no resentment, though I have experienced pain.”
The 38-year-old star of The Witches is currently married to businessman Adam Schulman, with whom she shares two children.
On the other hand, Follieri, now 43, has successfully rebuilt his business and tied the knot with Konstantina, a woman whose surname remains undisclosed.
The couple anticipates the arrival of their second child.
During a hosting stint on Saturday Night Live eight years ago, Hathaway humorously referred to Follieri following their breakup.
