Anne Hathaway's former partner, Raffaello Follieri, who served a four-year prison sentence for fraud, recently spoke out about their time together.
The couple began dating in 2004 and remained together until Follieri's arrest in 2008.
The Italian property developer pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including wire fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy.
According to reports, Follieri allegedly used investors' money to finance an extravagant lifestyle and purchase lavish gifts for Hathaway.
In a candid interview with the Daily Mail, Follieri disclosed that Hathaway cut off all communication with him following his arrest.
He shared a poignant moment before his arrest, recalling a phone call with Hathaway from Los Angeles, where she was promoting the film “Get Smart.”
They discussed her return home, and Hathaway reportedly expressed her love for him.
However, their conversation abruptly ended when he was arrested just hours later.
Follieri speculated that Hathaway's decision to sever ties was driven by a desire to protect her career.
Despite the pain he experienced, he expressed no bitterness towards her.
Hathaway humorously touched upon Follieri's legal troubles during her hosting stint on Saturday Night Live in October 2018, jokingly remarking on the timing of their breakup and his subsequent imprisonment.
Since their separation, Hathaway has married businessman Adam Shulman in 2012, and they now have two children together.
Meanwhile, Follieri has rebuilt his business empire after his release from prison.
His estimated net worth exceeds $290 million.
He is presently married to Konstantina, and they are eagerly anticipating the arrival of their second child.
Reflecting on his past experiences, Follieri emphasized the importance of finding a trustworthy partner.
He acknowledged that he had placed his trust in the wrong individuals but praised his wife for her unwavering support throughout his incarceration.
Follieri's journey serves as a reminder that, even in the face of adversity and mistakes, there is always an opportunity for redemption and personal growth.
