Arnold Schwarzenegger, the former bodybuilder and actor, openly acknowledges his affair with housekeeper Mildred Baena as his own personal failure.
The affair, which took place in 2011, ultimately led to the end of his marriage to Maria Shriver.
In a recent interview with People magazine, Schwarzenegger candidly stated, “It's just my f–k-up.”
He clarified that there was no feud or fight between him and Shriver, emphasizing that it was solely his mistake.
As a result of Schwarzenegger's extramarital affair, he fathered a child named Joseph with Baena, who was born just five days after the birth of his son Christopher with Shriver.
Despite the shocking revelation that ended their marriage, Schwarzenegger, now 76, insists that he and Shriver, 67, maintain a positive relationship.
“My chapter with Maria will continue on forever,” Schwarzenegger expressed.
“Even though it's a different relationship, there's no reason for me to feel anything other than love for her.”
The Terminator star highlighted that their children have always been their top priority.
They made it clear that the kids should not suffer because of the affair.
Schwarzenegger also mentioned that he and Shriver communicate about important family matters, such as holidays, birthdays, and special events.
However, according to a source, Shriver's children do not have a strong bond with their half-brother Joseph.
The insider explained that while Schwarzenegger treats Joseph fairly, the other children take out their frustrations on him due to the affair.
In Netflix's documentary titled “Arnold,” it was revealed that Shriver discovered her husband's infidelity during a marriage counseling session in 2011.
The counselor asked Schwarzenegger if he was the father of Joseph, and he admitted the truth, recalling that his heart nearly stopped at that moment.
The couple officially announced their separation in May 2011 after being married for 25 years.
It wasn't until 2021 that their divorce was finalized due to the complexity of their property settlement and the absence of a prenuptial agreement.
Following the divorce, Schwarzenegger began dating physical therapist Heather Milligan in 2013.
Despite their significant age difference of 27 years, the couple's relationship remains strong.
On the other hand, Shriver reportedly had a relationship with political analyst Matthew Dowd, but it is believed that they split in late 2020.
