In a candid interview, Arnold Schwarzenegger has shared the painful details of one of his most challenging family moments with his former wife, Maria Shriver.
The renowned Hollywood star delved into the depths of his 1996 infidelity scandal, shedding light on the emotional turmoil caused when Shriver discovered his affair with their housekeeper, Mildred Baena.
Schwarzenegger revealed that the truth came to light during a counseling session in 2011, where both he and Shriver were seeking guidance.
Recounting the moment, he shared, “Maria and I used to attend counseling sessions once a week.”
It was during one of these sessions that the counselor broached a specific question: “I think today Maria wants to be very specific about something.
She wants to know if you are the father of Joseph.”
Schwarzenegger described the impact of this revelation, saying, “I thought my heart stopped, and then I told the truth.”
The actor further admitted, “She was crushed because of that.
I had an affair in '96.
In the beginning, I genuinely didn't know.”
As time went on, however, Schwarzenegger realized the truth as his son, Joseph Baena, grew older.
He explained, “The more it became clear to me, the older he got, and then it was really just a matter of how do you keep this quiet?
How do you keep this a secret?”
Reflecting on the difficult moment, Schwarzenegger expressed how discussing it reopened old wounds and evoked strong emotions.
