Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis Apologize for Supporting Danny Masterson in Controversial Character Letters

In a heartfelt video released on social media, and addressed the backlash they received for writing character letters in support of their former “That '70s Show” co-star, Danny Masterson, who was recently convicted of rape and sentenced to 30 years in prison.

The couple appeared together in the video, speaking in a somewhat rehearsed manner.

Kutcher began by acknowledging the pain caused by their letters, stating, “We are aware of the pain that has been caused by the character letters that we wrote on behalf of Danny Masterson.”

Kunis chimed in, emphasizing their support for victims, both now and in the future.

The letters in question were made public by journalist Meghann Cuniff on her Substack platform, just one day after Masterson's formal sentencing on September 7th.

Masterson had been found guilty of two counts of forcible rape in his second trial.

During the trial, three accusers, all former members of the Church of Scientology, testified that Masterson had drugged and raped them.

Kutcher's letter praised Masterson as an honest and influential friend, while also highlighting his positive impact and role model status.

Kunis described Masterson as an amazing friend, confidant, and older brother figure.

Both letters commended Masterson as a good parent and someone who actively discouraged drug use.

In the video, Kutcher explained that Masterson's family had reached out to them a few months ago, asking for character letters to be presented to the judge during the sentencing phase.

The intention was to provide the judge with a fuller understanding of the person they knew for over 25 years.

Kutcher clarified that their intent was never to undermine the victims' testimony or cause further trauma.

He expressed remorse if their actions had inadvertently caused any harm.

Kunis reiterated their empathy for all victims of s**ual assault, abuse, or rape, expressing heartfelt sympathy for anyone who has experienced such trauma.

The couple made it clear that they respect the judicial system and the decisions made by the jury.

While their apology seeks to address the controversy surrounding their support for Masterson, Kutcher and Kunis remain committed to supporting and advocating for victims of s**ual crimes.

They expressed their dedication to this cause both through their work and in the future.

The couple's video serves as a reminder of the importance of listening to survivors and standing against s**ual violence.
