Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis Apologize for the “Pain Caused” by Their Letters Supporting Convicted Rapist Danny Masterson

In response to the backlash they received for writing character letters in support of their former That '70s Show co-star, convicted rapist Danny Masterson, and have issued an apology.

The couple released a video statement on Saturday, acknowledging the pain caused by their letters.

The video, shared on social media, featured Kutcher and Kunis standing side-by-side and delivering their statements in a somewhat rehearsed manner.

Kutcher began by expressing their awareness of the harm caused by the character letters they had written.

Kunis then added that they have a history of supporting victims and will continue to do so in the future.

These letters, which praised Masterson's character, were made public by journalist Meghann Cuniff on her Substack platform.

They surfaced one day after Masterson was officially sentenced to 30 years in prison for two counts of forcible rape.

The first trial ended in a mistrial due to a deadlocked jury.

During the trial, three of Masterson's accusers, all former members of the Church of Scientology, testified that he had drugged and raped them.

Despite these allegations, Kutcher referred to Masterson as an “extraordinarily honest and intentional friend” who was a positive influence on him and served as a role model.

Kunis described Masterson as an amazing friend, confidant, and older brother figure.

Both Kutcher and Kunis emphasized in their letters that Masterson was a good parent and discouraged drug use.

In the video statement, Kutcher explained that Masterson's family had approached them a few months ago, requesting character letters to be considered during the sentencing.

They clarified that their intention was not to question the judicial system or undermine the victims' testimonies, but rather to provide a perspective on the person they had known for 25 years.

Kunis reiterated that the letters were meant for the judge's eyes only and were never intended to retraumatize or discredit the victims in any way.

They expressed their sincere apologies if their actions had caused any harm.

Kunis concluded by expressing empathy for all individuals who have experienced s**ual assault, abuse, or rape.

and ' public apology serves as a response to the criticism surrounding their support for Masterson.

While they acknowledge the pain caused by their letters, they emphasize their commitment to supporting victims and express sympathy for those affected by s**ual violence.
