Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis Express Regret for Impact of Letters Supporting Danny Masterson

In a recent development, actors Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have issued an apology for the character letters they wrote on behalf of fellow actor Danny Masterson, who was recently sentenced for rape.

A judge in Los Angeles handed down a 30-year to life prison sentence for Masterson's crimes, which involved the rape of two women in 2003.

Kutcher and Kunis took to Instagram to express their remorse, acknowledging the potential pain caused by their letters, which were made public just last Friday.

They clarified that the intention behind the letters was not to undermine the victims' testimonies or cause any further trauma.

They sincerely apologized if their actions had unintentionally resulted in such consequences.

According to Kutcher, Masterson's family approached them after his conviction in May, requesting character letters that would shed light on the person they had known for 25 years.

These letters were intended solely for the judge's review but ended up being published online by various digital publications, including The Hollywood Reporter.

Masterson, known for his role alongside Kutcher, Kunis, and Topher Grace in the television series “That '70s Show,” worked with Kutcher again in 2016 on the Netflix comedy “The Ranch.”

However, following the revelation of the Los Angeles Police Department investigation the following year, Masterson was written off the show.

During the hearing, Judge Charlaine F. Olmedo of the Los Angeles Superior Court heard statements from the victims as well as pleas for fairness from Masterson's defense attorneys before delivering the sentencing.

In his letter dated July 27, 2023, Kutcher described Masterson as someone who treated others with decency, equality, and generosity.

Kunis, in her letter to Judge Olmedo, referred to Masterson as an outstanding role model, friend, and exceptional older brother figure.

The incidents occurred at Masterson's residence in Hollywood in 2003, during the peak of his fame on the Fox network sitcom “That '70s Show.”

Both victims testified that they were drugged before being violently raped by Masterson.

In their apology video, Kunis emphasized that their intention was never to undermine the victims' testimonies.

They expressed their empathy for every individual who has experienced s**ual assault, abuse, or rape, extending their heartfelt support to them.
