Barbra Streisand, in her latest memoir titled My Name Is Barbra, delves into a treasure trove of captivating anecdotes from her extensive career in show business.
Within the pages of her book, she recounts encounters with various men she has crossed paths with, shedding light on both her romantic pursuits and refusals, including a noteworthy incident involving a prominent individual.
During a soirée in 1966, Streisand narrates an episode where she rebuffed advances from none other than Marlon Brando.
The renowned actor, known for his role in The Godfather, made a direct proposition to Streisand by straightforwardly expressing, “I'd like to engage in intimate relations with you.”
Declining the advances of one of the world's most famous and charismatic actors might not have been the obvious choice for many; however, it likely turned out to be the most prudent decision.
At the time of this encounter, Brando was married to actress Tarita Teriipaia, who, as per Streisand's account, was present in the vicinity when Brando approached her.
Despite initially turning down Brando's advances, the distinguished EGOT awardee discloses that a friendship blossomed between them.
Subsequently, they engaged in regular phone conversations, with Brando reaching out to Streisand after viewing her performance in the movie Funny Girl, a role that earned her an Academy Award.
Brando commended Streisand, praising her talent while injecting a touch of humor by playfully commenting on her unique running style depicted in the film.
During his era, Brando garnered recognition as a s=x symbol through his appearances in iconic films such as A Streetcar Named Desire and On the Waterfront, amassing fame, critical acclaim, and an ardent following encompassing individuals of all genders.
In an era where unconventional behavior faced societal resistance, Brando openly discussed his bisexuality and relationships with other men.
Although Streisand's connection with Brando did not evolve into a romantic relationship, she candidly discusses her past romantic entanglements in her memoir.
She was previously married to actor Elliott Gould, with whom she shares a child, and has been happily married to James Brolin since 1998.
