Barbra Streisand, renowned entertainer, recounts fascinating anecdotes from her extensive career in her new memoir, My Name Is Barbra.
Within its pages, she shares stories of the men she dated and those she declined, including one iconic figure.
In a particular passage, Streisand reveals that she rejected an advance from Marlon Brando.
This incident occurred at a party in 1966, where the Godfather actor straightforwardly expressed his desire, stating, “I'd like to engage in s**ual activity with you.”
While refusing the advances of one of the world's most famous and attractive actors may not have been a decision everyone would make, it was likely the right choice.
At the time, Brando was married to fellow actor Tarita Teriipaia, who happened to be in the next room when he propositioned Streisand, according to the memoir.
Despite the initial rejection, the EGOT winner discloses that she and Brando eventually formed a friendship.
They frequently conversed over the phone, and he even called her after watching her performance in the film Funny Girl, for which she won her first Academy Award.
Reportedly, Brando commended Streisand, affirming that she was “truly talented.”
He also humorously commented on her unconventional running style in the movie.
During his time, Brando was widely regarded as a s** symbol due to his roles in acclaimed films like A Streetcar Named Desire and On the Waterfront.
His talent garnered critical acclaim and the adoration of countless individuals, irrespective of gender.
Brando openly identified as bisexual during a period when such behavior faced significant societal disapproval.
He spoke candidly about his relationships with other men.
Although Streisand did not engage romantically with Brando, her memoir does not shy away from discussing the men she has been involved with.
She was previously married to actor Elliott Gould, with whom she shares a child.
Since 1998, she has been married to James Brolin.
After several years of work, My Name Is Barbra was finally released on November 7.
Streisand dedicated decades to crafting this memoir, which spans nearly 1,000 pages, making it one of the most extensive celebrity memoirs in recent memory.
