Renowned actor Betty White's last spoken word before her peaceful passing on December 31, 2021, reportedly echoed the name of her deceased husband, Allen Ludden.
During an exclusive interview, actress Vicki Lawrence disclosed to The Hollywood Reporter that White, aged 99 at the time of her demise, called out for her late husband before peacefully departing in her sleep.
Lawrence and White initially crossed paths on the popular sketch comedy show, The Carol Burnett Show, and later collaborated on the spin-off series, Mama's Family.
When questioned about her last interaction with White, Lawrence, aged 72, expressed to THR that it had been a considerable amount of time since she had been in contact with the legendary actress.
Nevertheless, Lawrence shared that following White's passing, she conversed with Burnett and was informed that moments before her departure, The Golden Girls icon affectionately uttered her husband's name.
Recalling the conversation, Lawrence stated, “[Burnett] mentioned that she spoke with Betty's assistant, who was by her side during her final moments, and relayed that the last word Betty spoke was ‘Allen'.”
Reflecting on this tender moment, Lawrence added, “It's remarkably heartwarming, and I sincerely hope it holds true.”
White and Emmy Award-winning game show host Ludden exchanged vows in 1963, following unsuccessful marriages for both parties.
Following Ludden's demise from stomach cancer in 1981, the Hot in Cleveland star opted not to remarry.
During a 2014 appearance on Larry King Now, White candidly revealed her stance on not entering into another marriage, stating, “When you've experienced the finest, why settle for anything less?”
In the official statement confirming White's passing, her agent Jeff Whitjas articulated that the late actress harbored no fear of death as she longed to reunite with her cherished spouse, Allen Ludden.
The statement further emphasized White's unwavering belief in a reunion with Ludden, underscoring her profound desire to be reunited with him once more.
