In a recent interview on the U.K. talk show Loose Women, veteran actor Burt Reynolds did not mince words when discussing Charlie Sheen's revelation about being HIV positive.
Reynolds, aged 79, expressed his belief that Sheen brought this situation upon himself.
Reynolds stated, “Charlie, I don't feel bad for him.
He's getting what he deserves.”
When questioned whether he felt any sympathy towards Sheen, the former Two and a Half Men star, Reynolds bluntly rejected the notion.
He emphasized that misbehavior has consequences, asserting, “If you're gonna misbehave like that, then you're gonna get yours.
He deserves it.
He misbehaved badly, really badly.”
However, Reynolds did express empathy for Sheen's father, Martin Sheen, describing him as a “very, very decent man and a dear friend.”
He mentioned feeling sorry for the elder Sheen amidst the circumstances involving his son.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by individuals like Sheen, Reynolds acknowledged that navigating life's complexities at a certain age could be arduous.
He mentioned, “When you're at that age, it's tough.
All those things are coming at you.
It's difficult.”
Responding to inquiries regarding his comments, Reynolds has yet to provide further clarification.
The iconic figure, known for his roles in films such as Boogie Nights, has encountered his share of struggles while in the public eye.
In the 1980s, rumors circulated that Reynolds was terminally ill with AIDS due to a drastic weight loss, which he attributed to a prescription painkiller addiction following a jaw injury.
In his memoir, But Enough About Me, Reynolds disclosed that combating the rumors entailed a steadfast commitment to work amidst the distressing period.
Reflecting on that challenging time, he recounted, “I just kept working.
I thought the only way to make these rumors go away is to keep working.
…It really was an awful period.”
