Ah, the memories of that time when the most popular kid in school spread false rumors about you.
It's a classic tale.
But imagine having the audacity to retaliate by loading your helicopter with horse manure from your ranch and strategically dumping it on their extravagant Christmas tree.
That's exactly what Burt Reynolds did, proving once again why he was the epitome of cool.
The National Enquirer had a particular interest in Reynolds, constantly printing stories about him that he claimed were entirely false.
For years, Reynolds endured their lies, taking the high road and remaining silent.
However, there came a point when he could no longer tolerate their deceit.
The final straw was when the Enquirer proudly displayed a Christmas tree they claimed to be the tallest in the world.
This was simply too much for Reynolds to bear.
After years of being coated in the Enquirer's falsehoods, they had crossed the line by flaunting their massive tree as if they were best friends with Jesus himself.
This called for action – an action that would be meaningful, beautiful, and poetic.
According to The Guardian's account of the incident, Reynolds owned a horse ranch near the Enquirer's former headquarters in Boca Raton, Florida.
With over a hundred horses, he had an abundance of horse manure readily available.
Coincidentally, he also had access to a helicopter and a deep yearning for justice.
Under the cloak of darkness, Reynolds and his pilot filled two large nets with horse dung and loaded them onto the awaiting chopper.
They patiently bided their time until around 3 a.m., when they flew the helicopter as close to the National Enquirer's headquarters as possible.
Then, with precision, they released the nets, allowing the manure to gracefully descend onto the “World's Largest Christmas Tree,” effectively covering it in the very substance that the Enquirer had been associating with Reynolds for years.
Reynolds revealed this act of revenge in his book, “But Enough About Me,” and later discussed it in a 2015 interview with Dan Le Batard.
In retrospect, we were right to idolize Burt Reynolds during our childhood.
He proved himself to be the epitome of cool and showcased that he wouldn't stand for false accusations and mistreatment
