Caitlyn Jenner is holding paparazzi responsible for her involvement in a car accident that resulted in the death of a woman in February 2015.
According to reports from ET, Jenner’s attorney has included photographers and photo agencies, referred to as “Stalker Defendants,” in an existing cross-complaint against Jessica Steindorff, another driver involved in the crash.
The court documents allege that the photographers were consistently stalking Jenner, chasing her, and harassing her throughout the day leading up to the incident.
The complaint further states that the photographers and others, acting together, negligently and recklessly drove their vehicles, tailgating Jenner and driving too closely in order to take pictures.
Jenner claims that due to the paparazzi’s behavior, she was visually distracted, even though she was following all the laws and speed limits.
The documents argue that the photographers’ actions contributed to the accident, where split seconds mattered.
Jenner is seeking legal responsibility for the damages sought by the occupants of the Hummer involved in the multi-vehicle collision from both the paparazzi and Steindorff.
The fatal crash occurred on February 7, 2015, when Steindorff was stopped at a traffic light on the Pacific Coast Highway.
Kim Howe, 69, was driving a Lexus sedan behind Steindorff.
It was later determined that Steindorff was driving with a suspended license.
Jenner rear-ended the Lexus, causing it to be thrown into oncoming traffic and struck by a Hummer.
Howe tragically passed away from her injuries at the scene.
Although the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department concluded that Steindorff’s driving did not lead to or cause the crash, Jenner’s lawyers argue that Steindorff was inattentive and failed to proceed when the traffic light turned green.
While Jenner was cleared of all criminal charges, the department did find that she was driving at an unsafe speed, despite being below the speed limit.
