Caitlyn Jenner blames the paparazzi for her involvement in a tragic car accident that resulted in the death of a woman in February 2015.
According to reports from ET, Jenner’s lawyer has included photographers and photo agencies, referred to as “Stalker Defendants,” in an existing cross-complaint against Jessica Steindorff, another driver involved in the crash.
In court documents, it is alleged that the photographers were constantly stalking, chasing, and harassing Jenner throughout the day leading up to the incident.
The complaint states that the paparazzi and their reckless behavior, such as tracking Jenner, speeding up to tailgate her, and driving too close to take pictures, caused Jenner to be visually distracted while she was following laws and speed limits.
Jenner believes that the photographers’ actions played a role in the accident, where split seconds mattered.
Furthermore, Jenner is seeking legal responsibility and damages from both the paparazzi and Steindorff on behalf of the occupants of the Hummer involved in the collision.
The fatal crash occurred on February 7, 2015, when Steindorff was stopped at a traffic light on the Pacific Coast Highway.
Kim Howe, aged 69, was driving a Lexus sedan behind Steindorff, who was driving with a suspended license.
Jenner rear-ended the Lexus, causing it to be thrown into oncoming traffic and hit by a Hummer.
Unfortunately, Howe succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the crash.
Although the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department determined that Steindorff’s driving did not cause or contribute to the accident, Jenner’s lawyers argue that she was inattentive and failed to proceed when the traffic light turned green.
While it was found that Jenner was driving at an unsafe speed, she was driving below the speed limit.
As a result, Jenner was cleared of all criminal charges.
