Caitlyn Jenner, the former Olympic gold medalist and reality TV star, has agreed to pay a settlement of $800,000 in connection with a lawsuit stemming from a fatal car crash that occurred in 2015.
The news was confirmed by ABC News on Friday.
According to court documents, Jenner collided with another vehicle that subsequently struck a car carrying five members of the Wolf-Millesi family, including musician Peter Wolf-Millesi, his wife Lea, their two children, and Lea's mother, Elga Maurer.
The settlement, which was recently submitted to the court for approval, outlines the distribution of the funds.
Maurer will receive $500,000, while both Peter and Lea Wolf-Millesi will each be awarded $100,000.
Their two sons will receive $50,000 each.
The court documents also provide details about the injuries sustained by the plaintiffs.
Maurer suffered a cervical spine fracture, Peter Wolf-Millesi experienced severe nerve injuries to his hands and wrists, Lea Peter Wolf-Millesi suffered blunt trauma to her knees, neck, and back, as well as emotional distress.
Nino Wolf-Millesi suffered blunt trauma and emotional distress, and Gaetano Wolf-Millesi, who was only four weeks old at the time, was hospitalized after failing to respond to stimuli at the scene.
However, doctors later determined that he had not suffered any physical injuries.
In addition to the settlement amount, Jenner will also be responsible for covering the plaintiffs' medical expenses and attorneys' fees.
Attorneys representing both parties expressed satisfaction with the outcome.
Philip W. Boesch Jr., Jenner's attorney, stated, “There have been confidential settlements of all claims and cross-complaints, and all parties are satisfied with the outcome.”
Spencer Lucas, the attorney for the Wolf-Millesi family, added, “The case has settled and the Wolf-Millesi family is happy to be moving on with their lives.”
The car accident took place in Malibu, California, on February 7, 2015, and involved a total of four vehicles.
The crash resulted in the death of 70-year-old Kim Howe.
Jenner was not charged with a crime, as the Los Angeles County District Attorney determined that she had been driving below the speed limit and had applied her brakes before the impact.
Following the accident, Blair Berk, Jenner's attorney, expressed confidence that an objective investigation would clear her of any criminal wrongdoing. ”
