Carrie Fisher, the late actress known for her role as Princess Leia in Star Wars, stood by co-star Harrison Ford despite his infidelity during their three-month affair.
The revelation of their secret relationship in 2016 sparked controversy, especially since Ford was married with children at the time.
Fisher's memoir, titled “The Princess Diarist,” shed light on the affair and provided insights into their clandestine romance.
Despite Ford cheating on his first wife, Mary Marquardt, Fisher refused to label him as a womanizer and instead praised him as a decent person.
The memoir disclosed that the affair took place when Ford was 33 years old and married, while Fisher was only 19.
Despite her infatuation with the actor, Fisher did not condone their relationship due to his marital status and unavailability.
Following the release of “Star Wars: A New Hope,” Ford divorced Marquardt in 1979.
Fisher clarified in her memoir that she didn't believe herself to be the cause of their divorce and defended Ford against the womanizer label.
She wrote, “Whatever the state of his marriage, which ended soon after the filming of Star Wars for reasons having nothing whatsoever to do with me, I don't think of Harrison in any way as a ‘womanizer.'
I think he was lonely in England.”
Fisher acknowledged that Ford had cheated on his wives, but emphasized that the only time he cheated was with her.
She expressed that he may not have considered it significant because of her height, jokingly implying that her stature made her less threatening to his relationships.
In addition to her feelings towards Ford, Fisher revealed her desire for more effort from the actor and even fantasized about him leaving his first wife.
However, their relationship came to an end after the filming of “Star Wars: A New Hope.”
The reason for Fisher's prolonged silence about the affair was due to her belief that the story would not have been as intriguing if they hadn't become famous.
She saw it as a part of history and felt it was now appropriate to share with others.
Fisher emphasized that the affair was highly s**ual but lacked the emotional connection she desired.
She also expressed guilt over being involved in an intense relationship that felt more like a prolonged one-night stand.
Despite the scandal surrounding their secret affair, Fisher defended Ford and refused to label him as a womanizer.
The memoir provided a glimpse into their complicated relationship, shedding light on the challenges they faced as co-stars amidst their personal lives.
The revelation of the affair added another layer to the Star Wars legacy, captivating fans and fueling discussions about the complexities of relationships within the entertainment industry.
