In a heartfelt memoir titled “My Girls: A Lifetime with Carrie and Debbie,” Todd Fisher opens up about the lives of his late mother, Debbie Reynolds, and sister, Carrie Fisher.
Todd delves into the intimate details of growing up with Debbie and Carrie, shedding light on Carrie's experiences while filming Star Wars.
One significant revelation is that Carrie felt regret over disclosing her affair with co-star Harrison Ford in her book, “The Princess Diarist.”
Todd writes, “Neither of them harbored any illusions about having a future together.
They were simply succumbing to a strong mutual attraction during the making of a movie, as if this wasn't one of the oldest tales in Hollywood.”
It was years later when Debbie learned about the affair as Carrie was penning “The Princess Diarist.”
Debbie advised her daughter not to include such a personal story in the book, but Carrie went ahead and included it anyway, only to later regret her decision.
According to Todd, Carrie approached their mother after the book gained significant attention and admitted, “You were right, I shouldn't have shared that story.”
Harrison, for what it's worth, Carrie genuinely regretted revealing the affair.
Todd's memoir also touches upon the heartbreaking loss of his beloved mother and sister.
Carrie tragically passed away at the age of 60 on December 27, 2016, following a heart attack on an airplane.
The very next day, Debbie, aged 84, also passed away.
In his memoir, Todd recounts receiving the distressing call from Carrie's assistant, informing him of what had transpired on the plane.
Todd, who was in Las Vegas at the time, immediately rushed back to Los Angeles, where Carrie had been taken to the hospital.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Todd found Carrie's daughter, Billie Lourd, and her ex-husband Bryan Lourd already present.
Todd writes, “They managed to revive her, her body temperature was lowered to preserve her brain, and she was put on life support.”
In June 2017, the cause of Carrie's death was revealed.
The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner disclosed that Fisher had passed away due to sleep apnea and “other undetermined factors.”
Three days after Carrie's death, an autopsy was conducted by the Medical Examiner.
The report concluded that the manner of her death remained undetermined.
It further stated that her cardiac arrest was linked to the ingestion of multiple drugs, with the exact significance yet to be determined.
