Carrie Fisher’s Regret Over Revealing Her Affair with Harrison Ford

Carrie Fisher, the late writer and actress, openly discussed her three-month-long affair with Harrison Ford on the set of Star Wars in her book, The Princess Diarist, as well as in numerous interviews.

However, according to Todd Fisher, Carrie's younger brother, she later expressed regret for sharing this intimate detail.

In November 2016, Carrie spoke to People about the affair, describing it as intense.

She said, “It was Han and Leia during the week, and Carrie and Harrison during the weekend.” Todd reveals in his new book, My Girls: A Lifetime with Carrie and Debbie, that their mother, Debbie Reynolds, had no knowledge of the affair until Carrie made it public.

Carrie's regret stemmed from her mother's disapproval.

According to Todd, Carrie admitted to their mother, “You're right.

I shouldn't have told that story.”

Their relationship was complex, as portrayed in the film Postcards from the Edge.

In the last months of 2016, Carrie was upset with her mother for planning an extravagant 60th birthday party, while she was busy filming Star Wars: The Last Jedi in London and promoting her book.

Debbie, who had suffered a stroke the previous year, was determined to organize the party herself, eventually persuading Carrie to return to Los Angeles.

In her memoir, Wishful Drinking, Carrie described her admiration for her mother's beauty and her own insecurities.

She wrote, “It was then that I knew with the profound certainty of a ten-year-old that I would not be, and was in no way now, the beauty that my mother was.

I was a clumsy-looking and intensely awkward, insecure girl…

I decided then that I'd better develop something else—if I wasn't going to be pretty, maybe I could be funny or smart.”

According to Todd, Debbie's love and dedication for her daughter were unwavering.

He writes that she wanted to pass away alongside Carrie, ensuring that she would never be alone.
