Carrie Fisher’s Regrets About Revealing Her Affair with Harrison Ford Disappointing to Her Mother

Regretting her decision to share a personal story, Carrie Fisher expressed her remorse just weeks before her death in 2016.

While promoting her book, The Princess Diarist, Fisher openly talked about her three-month affair with Harrison Ford during interviews and in her memoir.

However, her younger brother, Todd, revealed that Fisher regretted making their brief tryst public.

The affair between Fisher and Ford took place on the set of Star Wars when Fisher was 19 years old and Ford was 33, already married and a father of two.

During a 2016 interview with PEOPLE, Fisher described the affair as “intense.”

She explained that it was like playing Han and Leia on screen during the week, but being Carrie and Harrison behind the scenes on weekends.

According to Todd, their mother, Debbie Reynolds, had no knowledge of the affair until Fisher disclosed it to the public.

Fisher later admitted that her mother's disapproval made her regret sharing the story.

Fisher and Reynolds had a complex relationship, as Todd detailed in his account.

They had an argument in late 2016 over Fisher's 60th birthday party.

Fisher was upset with her mother for planning an extravagant celebration, considering she was busy promoting her book and filming Star Wars: The Last Jedi in London.

Eventually, Fisher agreed to attend the party, understanding that her mother's effort stemmed from the stroke Reynolds had suffered the previous year.

In her memoir, Wishful Drinking, Fisher reminisced about her childhood and how she admired her mother's beauty.

She confessed that she had always dreamed of looking like her but realized she didn't possess the same physical attributes.

Instead, Fisher decided to develop her humor and intelligence, channeling her energy into those qualities.

Tragically, both Fisher and Reynolds passed away within one day of each other in 2016.

Fisher died of a heart attack on December 27th, while Reynolds, according to Todd, succumbed to a broken heart the following day.

Todd believes that his mother's unwavering love for Fisher led her to pass away so soon after her daughter.

He stated, “Debbie Reynolds willed herself right off this planet to personally see to it that Carrie would never be alone.”
