Cate Blanchett, a prominent Australian actress known for her roles in movies produced by Harvey Weinstein such as The Aviator, Carol, and The Shipping News, has come forward with allegations of inappropriate behavior against the Hollywood producer.
During an interview with Variety, Blanchett admitted that Weinstein had behaved inappropriately towards her.
She mentioned feeling uneasy around him, recalling instances where he would explicitly state that they were not friends.
When questioned further about their relationship, Blanchett revealed that she refused to comply with certain requests made by Weinstein, which led to his disapproval.
This marks the first time that Blanchett, a strong advocate of the Time's Up movement, has openly discussed Weinstein's alleged misconduct directed at her.
She emphasized the importance of holding individuals like Weinstein accountable and expressed her desire for legal consequences to be enforced.
Blanchett highlighted the significance of establishing legal precedents through convictions in cases involving s**ual misconduct.
She stressed that prosecuting perpetrators is essential for setting standards that can protect others from similar experiences.
When asked about the potential for Weinstein to face jail time if found guilty of the accusations against him, Blanchett expressed her hope for justice to prevail.
Weinstein faces numerous allegations of s**ual assault and harassment from over 70 women, resulting in ongoing criminal investigations in both the US and the UK, along with multiple civil lawsuits.
Despite the allegations, Weinstein's spokesperson maintains his denial of any non-consensual s**ual encounters.
In addition to addressing the allegations against Weinstein, Blanchett also commented on the controversy surrounding director Woody Allen.
Referring to the accusations of s**ual abuse brought forth by Dylan Farrow against Allen, Blanchett suggested that the legal system should intervene to properly address the matter.
Blanchett, who starred in Allen's film Blue Jasmine, acknowledged the pain experienced by Farrow and emphasized the importance of ensuring that unresolved cases are thoroughly examined in a court of law.
She recognized the necessity of reopening cases that have not been adequately resolved to provide a platform for justice to prevail.
