In a surprising turn of events, Catherine Zeta-Jones has decided to separate from her husband, Michael Douglas, after 13 years together.
The couple made the announcement yesterday, stating that they will be taking time apart to assess and work on their marriage.
The catalyst for this decision seems to have been Michael's revelation that he contracted throat cancer through oral s**.
It appears that Catherine was deeply affected by this admission, as Michael disclosed that his cancer was caused by the HPV virus, which he acquired through oral s**ual contact.
However, he failed to mention whether he had contracted the virus before or after meeting Catherine, leading to an uncomfortable situation.
According to The Sun, this revelation was the beginning of the end: “It all went downhill from there.”
In addition to Michael's battle with cancer, Catherine has been fighting bipolar II disorder, which has necessitated her seeking treatment for depression on two occasions, most recently in May.
It was at the end of that month that the couple decided to separate, although reports suggest that they had already been leading separate lives for some time.
A source residing near their mansion in Bedford, Connecticut, revealed, “We have not seen much of Michael here with Catherine for about 18 months.
Most of his friends are in New York.
He likes the city, and she enjoys activities like horseback riding and playing golf.
They're completely different.”
This disparity in interests seems to have contributed to the strain on their relationship.
While Catherine remains in New York with their children, Michael is currently vacationing alone in Europe.
Photographs captured him aboard a friend's yacht off the coast of Sardinia, appearing contemplative ahead of the Deauville Film Festival in France, where he first met Catherine back in 1998.
Recently, Michael hinted that their struggles had actually strengthened their bond, stating, “True love takes work.
Love is an extraordinary feeling that comes from the depths of your soul, but it requires nurturing.
The one thing I've learned about growing older is that you can't take love for granted.
You must protect it, nurture it,
