Cedric the Entertainer recently appeared on Big Boy TV to address the public comments made by Cat Williams earlier this year on Club Shea Shea, hosted by Shannon Sharpe.
For those who may not be aware, Cat accused Cedric of stealing one of his jokes for the film “The Original Kings of Comedy.”
During the interview with Shannon Sharpe, Cat expressed feeling betrayed by Cedric, a comedian he once held in high regard.
Now, Cedric is sharing his side of the story, asserting that he had been working on the joke for years before showcasing it in The Kings of Comedy.
The contentious joke in question involves both comedians portraying scenarios of listening to music in their cars, with Cat’s car breaking down while Cedric’s car is depicted as driving through space.
Following the viral spread of Cat’s allegations, numerous comparison videos emerged online, allowing fans to weigh in on whether the joke was indeed plagiarized.
In his conversation with Big Boy, Cedric emphasized that just because someone tells a joke on television before another person does not necessarily mean they originated it.
He clarified that they are simply the first to present the joke to a wider audience.
Additionally, Cedric shed light on another joke from his 2016 Netflix special that faced similar accusations post-Cat’s Club Shea Shea interview.
Fans discovered that a joke from Cedric’s Netflix special bore striking resemblance to a joke featured in a 1980 sitcom called “Designing Women.”
Cedric explained that the joke was inspired by a family member and considered it more of a performance piece based on a true story.
The anecdote revolves around a man named Bob Inicius and a humorous mix-up involving his name.
Notably, Cedric attributed the surge of negative media attention this year to interviews like Cat’s, citing instances where Monique, D.L.
Hughley, and the recent Rap Beast also engaged in public call-outs.
Interestingly, Cedric did not hold Shannon Sharpe accountable for Cat’s remarks, as Cedric had previously appeared on Club Shea Shea without any controversy months before Cat’s appearance.
The revelation from Cedric regarding the joke theft accusations raised by Cat Williams has sparked discussions among fans.
Do you believe Cedric stole the joke, or do you think there is more to the story?
