In a shocking turn of events, the High Court battle between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp has exposed allegations of domestic violence, drug abuse, and even disturbing accounts of defecation in a bed.
However, if we rewind almost a century, we will discover that this isn't the first time a high-profile Hollywood marriage has been dragged through the mud for all to see.
In 1927, Chaplin found himself facing a divorce lawsuit filed by his second wife, Lita Grey, in the Superior Court of Los Angeles.
Grey accused him of threatening her with a gun and attempting to force her into having an abortion.
This divorce case would go on to expose Chaplin's questionable behavior towards numerous underage girls.
Born Charles Spencer Chaplin on April 16, 1889, in London, he made his way to America in 1913.
The former vaudeville performer quickly rose to stardom at Keystone Films.
However, off-screen, he developed a notorious reputation as a womanizer.
After living in the US for five years, Chaplin married 16-year-old Mildred Harris.
He pursued the young actress with gifts and flowers, eventually marrying her due to a false pregnancy scare and the fear of scandal.
Tragically, their relationship took a devastating turn when their son, Norman Chaplin, was born with severe intestinal malformation and passed away after just 72 hours.
Two days after their child's death, Chaplin left his young wife.
They divorced in November 1920, with Mildred citing Chaplin's short temper, impatience, and mistreatment.
The divorce settlement awarded her $200,000 and a portion of Chaplin's extensive property, bringing an end to their tumultuous union.
However, this marriage was merely a prelude to the way Chaplin would groom, marry, and mistreat his second wife, Lillita Louise MacMurray.
The actor first laid eyes on Lillita when she was just six years old.
He later encountered the same twelve-year-old amidst a group of extras on the set of The Kid in 1920.
From the beginning, Chaplin's behavior mirrored that of a pedophile.
He referred to Lillita as his “age-of-innocence girl” and even instructed a set decorator to paint her in the likeness of Joshua Reynolds's renowned
