In a revealing interview last November with Matt Lauer on TODAY, Charlie Sheen disclosed his HIV positive status, citing his desire to thwart extortion attempts linked to his diagnosis.
Following his 2011 diagnosis, the actor admitted to paying over $10 million to shield this information from the public eye.
However, in a recent conversation with People magazine, Sheen expressed a shift in perspective, aiming to utilize his HIV status as a means to support and educate others.
Reflecting on his journey, Sheen, aged 50, mused, “I guess certain things happen for a reason.
And maybe all of the stuff that I've done professionally, to garner such attention and fanfare and whatever else — good or bad — was sort of leading to a greater calling, a deeper calling…”
Taking a proactive stance, Sheen intends to leverage his HIV positive status as a platform to advocate for safe s=x practices, aligning himself with the condom brand LELO HEX as a brand ambassador.
Asserting the importance of promoting safe s=x, Sheen emphasized, “This is a way to prevent a lot of sh*t from happening, from disease to unwanted pregnancies.
But it's still taboo for some reason.”
In light of his personal experience, Sheen confessed to a newfound conviction regarding condom use post-diagnosis, underscoring his responsibility to raise awareness about s–ual health matters.
“I don't think it's ever a bad time to be an advocate for something like this,” Sheen remarked.
Alongside his endorsement of the LELO HEX brand, the actor aspires to return to his acting pursuits, having recently completed filming for a drama inspired by the events of 9/11.
Encouraged by the evolving landscape, Sheen observed optimistically, “There's opportunity in the air, which is really nice.
The world is turning.”
