In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, the 78-year-old addressed his long-standing reputation for mistreating his co-stars, showing no remorse for his past actions.
When asked about his behavior in today’s context, Chase dismissively said, “I don’t give a crap.”
He expressed that he is content with who he is and has no intention of changing.
This lack of concern seems to be a defining characteristic of his personality.
Chase’s history of abusive conduct dates back to the 1970s and has been supported by numerous witnesses over the years.
His recent outbursts have included instances of racism and s**ual harassment.
Actor Donald Glover has spoken out about racist remarks made by Chase during their time working together on the sitcom Community.
Chase allegedly told Glover, “People think you’re funnier because you’re Black.”
Chase’s colleagues from Saturday Night Live (SNL) have also attested to his problematic behavior.
Pete Davidson openly criticized Chase, labeling him as a “bad, racist person” and sharing his dislike for the actor.
Will Ferrell recounted an incident during an SNL appearance by Chase where his behavior was so troubling that the cast suspected he might be under the influence of drugs.
In addition to these accounts, other SNL alums have witnessed Chase’s misconduct.
Jane Curtin, Laraine Newman, and Gilda Radner have all publicly stated that they saw Chase engage in a physical altercation with Bill Murray, another SNL star.
One particularly disturbing incident involved Terry Sweeney, the first openly gay cast member of the show.
Sweeney revealed that while guest-hosting in 1985, Chase subjected him to harassment about his sexuality, including making explicit and derogatory comments in front of fellow cast member Jon Lovitz.
Sweeney referred to Chase as “a monster.”
Chase’s problematic behavior is not limited to the entertainment industry.
In 2018, he was involved in a minor traffic altercation that escalated into a physical confrontation, during which he aggressively threatened the other driver, shouting, “I am going to ruin your lives!”
Despite mounting evidence and multiple accounts of his abusive conduct, Chase remains unrepentant.
His dismissive attitude and refusal to take responsibility for his actions raise serious questions about the consequences he may face for his behavior.
