However, a new book by his former assistant sheds light on even more startling revelations about The Dark Knight Rises star.
Harrison Cheung, who served as an unpaid aide to the 38-year-old actor, discloses in Christian Bale: The Inside Story of the Darkest Batman that it took him five years of therapy to move on from his time working with Bale.
One of the most alarming anecdotes concerning the typically private actor involves a fan letter received at his residence.
Bale allegedly instructed Harrison to have the fan “taken care of.”
In the note, he reportedly wrote, “It's better to err on the side of caution.
A screwdriver to the eye socket leading into the brain will ensure silence.
Keep me informed of the outcome.”
Additionally, Bale is said to have reduced young girls to tears when they approached him in public seeking an autograph.
He would reprimand them for being impolite and intrusive until tears streamed down their faces, prompting their parents to intervene and lead them away.
The book also reveals that Bale harbors a competitive streak with Leonardo DiCaprio over film roles and uncovers the fact that he chose not to attend the funeral of his Batman co-star Heath Ledger, despite publicly honoring him at the MTV Movie Awards.
