Cindy Crawford recently opened up about her past marriage with Richard Gere, describing the actor as someone who now feels distant to her, even two decades after their divorce.
At the age of 26, Crawford tied the knot with Gere, who was 42 at the time, acknowledging that she might have been too young for such a commitment.
During an interview on Marc Maron's WTF podcast, Crawford reflected on her relationship with Gere, highlighting that their marriage lasted only two years despite being together for six years.
Contrary to her statement, the couple got married in a spontaneous Vegas ceremony in 1991 and officially parted ways in 1995.
When asked if she maintains a friendship with the now 66-year-old Gere, Crawford admitted that they are amicable but have drifted apart over time.
She expressed that Gere seems to have reverted to being the public figure “Richard Gere,” making him feel more like a stranger due to their infrequent interactions.
Reflecting on the dynamics of their relationship, Crawford pondered on the lack of a solid friendship foundation between them, attributing it to their age difference and differing life experiences.
As she matured and evolved personally, altering the nature of their bond became a challenging task.
In contrast to her past, Cindy Crawford is now happily married to Rande Gerber, with whom she will celebrate 18 years of marriage in May.
Crawford emphasized that their strong relationship stems from being close friends first, enabling them to be authentic selves around each other without pretense or compromise.
The supermodel elaborated on the significance of authenticity and friendship in her current marriage, emphasizing that being true to oneself and fostering a genuine connection are crucial elements for a successful partnership.
Crawford and Gerber share two children, a son named Presley and a daughter named Kaia, further solidifying their family bond.
On the other hand, Richard Gere embarked on a new chapter with model and actress Carey Lowell, marrying her in 2002.
However, after 11 years together, the couple decided to part ways in September 2013 and are currently navigating through divorce proceedings while co-parenting their son, Homer, together.
While Cindy Crawford hinted at retiring from modeling upon turning 50, she later clarified her stance on social media, expressing her ongoing excitement for new opportunities and ventures.
Acknowledging her three-decade-long career in the fashion industry, Crawford emphasized the unpredictability of the future and the potential for unexpected endeavors ahead, signifying a continued passion for her work and life experiences.
