Courtney Love is standing by her claim that she was fired from the movie Fight Club because she refused to let Brad Pitt portray her late husband, Kurt Cobain.
During an interview on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast, Love revealed that she was initially cast to play the character Marla, which was ultimately played by Helena Bonham Carter.
According to Love, she was fired from the film after she confronted Pitt and director Gus Van Sant about their plans to make a movie about Cobain.
She described the incident as going “nuclear” on them.
However, a source contradicted Love's statement, stating that she was never cast in the role after her audition.
The source also emphasized that actors do not have the power to decide who gets cast in a movie; that decision lies with the director.
Despite the dispute, Love took to Instagram to reassert her claim.
She stated that production had already begun when she was allegedly fired from Fight Club.
In her post, Love mentioned how she understands the uncertainty of casting decisions and that she is not complaining about losing a role as someone's side piece in a movie.
She recounted the incident when Pitt and Van Sant called her during lunch and attempted to blackmail her for the rights to a film about Cobain.
According to Love, she lost her temper and was fired from the movie later that day.
Love also expressed her belief that Pitt had been fixated on her because of her connection to Cobain.
She stated that she refused to let him play the role of Kurt and questioned his understanding of the late musician's essence.
Love recalled the emotional conversation with Edward Norton, who informed her of her removal from the film.
She claimed Norton was distraught and insisted that he lacked the power to prevent her firing.
Director David Fincher later confirmed the news to her.
Representatives for Pitt and Fincher have not commented on the matter, while Van Sant's representatives have yet to respond to requests for comment.
