Courtney Love Claims Brad Pitt’s Interference Led to Her Firing from ‘Fight Club’ After Rejecting Kurt Cobain Movie

Courtney Love alleges that her opportunity to play Marla Singer in the film ‘Fight Club' was hindered by Brad Pitt.

During a recent interview on WTF With Marc Maron, Love revealed that director David Fincher had initially cast her alongside Pitt and Edward Norton in the cult classic movie.

However, Love claims she was let go after refusing a proposition brought to her by Pitt.

Love explained that Pitt had approached her with the idea of portraying her late husband, Kurt Cobain, in a Gus Van Sant project.

She declined the offer, stating, “I wouldn't let Brad play Kurt.”

She expressed her disapproval, saying, “I went nuclear.

I don't do Faust.

Who the f–k do you think you are?”

Love recounted their conversation, expressing doubts about Pitt's understanding of Cobain's essence.

She questioned his ability to grasp her late husband's persona and criticized his films for prioritizing social justice over profitability.

“If you don't get me, you kind of don't get Kurt, and I don't feel like you do, Brad,” she told him.

According to Love, her rejection of Pitt's proposal resulted in her dismissal from ‘Fight Club.'

The role of Marla Singer was subsequently given to Helena Bonham Carter.

Love shared that Norton, her romantic partner at the time, broke the news to her, tearfully admitting he lacked the power to prevent her firing.

“He was like, ‘I don't have the power!'”

she recalled.

However, a source close to the film refuted Love's claims, stating that she had only auditioned for the role and was never offered it.

The source clarified, “You cannot be fired for a job you didn't get.

It's common knowledge that roles are not decided by other actors but by the director.”

Eventually, Van Sant directed a Cobain-inspired film titled ‘Last Days,' featuring Michael Pitt.

Love emphasized that this was not the original movie they had discussed.

On Instagram, Love further elaborated on her interactions with Pitt during the production of ‘Fight Club' and their discussions regarding a potential Cobain biopic.

She clarified that her discontent did not stem from missing out on the role of Marla in ‘Fight Club' but rather from her dissatisfaction with “the way [Pitt] does business or wields his power.”

Love acknowledged the unpredictability of casting decisions and expressed no resentment 22 years later for losing a part as someone's side piece in a movie.

She recounted a specific incident where Pitt and Van Sant attempted to blackmail her over her role, in exchange for the rights to a film about Kurt Cobain.

Love admitted losing her temper and being fired from ‘Fight Club' as a result.

She asserted, “Every word of this is factual.

This was always a secret that I was fine keeping.”

However, Love claimed that Pitt persistently pursued the idea of a Cobain film: “The point is Brad kept on stalking me about Kurt.”

She further revealed that her refusal to participate in a project produced by Plan B Films and Brad, even during a Zoom meeting in 2020, did not deter him.
