Daniel Craig Shares the Challenging Experience of Filming James Bond with a Broken Leg

, known for his role as James Bond, recently opened up about the “traumatic” ordeal he faced while filming the iconic spy series with a broken leg.

During the production of the last Bond film, Spectre, the actor sustained an injury to his leg.

Although he was scheduled for surgery, Craig decided to postpone it in order to avoid disrupting the filming schedule.

In an interview on ITV's Being James Bond documentary, which aired on Sunday night, Craig discussed the pain and challenges he encountered while filming after his accident.

Despite breaking his leg, Craig admitted to having fun during the filming of Spectre.

However, he acknowledged that his injury posed a significant problem.

He had two options: halt production for nine months to undergo surgery or continue filming while managing the injury.

Craig revealed, “We had a choice.

We could shut down for nine months, and I could go and get an operation, or I could crack on with the movie, and I didn't want to shut down for nine months.”

To cope with his broken leg, Craig wore a bionic leg and insisted on performing many of his own stunts throughout the rest of the filming process.

However, he described the experience as “massively distracting” and “traumatic.”

Psychologically, Craig had to navigate the challenges of his physical state.

He recalled moments when his leg would “give way” due to his injury.

For instance, in the opening scene of the movie, where he climbs out of a window and walks along a ledge, Craig constantly reminded himself, “Don't give way, don't give way.”

Despite the use of safety wires, the actor struggled to maintain composure.

He explained, “I have a wire on, but it's very traumatic.

I am trying to be cool, but my leg is shot.”

Bond producer Barbara Broccoli also expressed astonishment at Craig's determination.

She revealed that he could “barely walk” due to the excruciating pain, and she marveled at his ability to continue filming.

Last year, Craig disclosed that his leg injury had influenced his decision not to reprise his role as James Bond after No Time To Die
