A video clip from a 1998 episode of the “Late Show” featuring David Letterman sucking on a strand of Jennifer Aniston's hair has recently made its way back into the spotlight on the internet.
In light of The New York Times' documentary “Framing Britney Spears,” which sheds light on the media's treatment of celebrities like Britney Spears, several past interviews of the 73-year-old TV personality have garnered renewed attention.
Following the online buzz surrounding Letterman's 2013 interview with Lindsay Lohan, where his line of questioning was deemed “insensitive,” the revisit to his encounter with Aniston has gained traction.
At the start of the interview, despite Letterman's somewhat intrusive query about Aniston's attire during an incident in a steam room when she was approximately 29 years old, the atmosphere appeared amicable.
However, the conversation took an unexpected turn when Letterman abruptly paused and expressed his desire to attempt something unusual.
Moving his chair closer to Aniston, he placed a hand on her shoulder and proceeded to put a lock of her hair into his mouth, causing the actress to react in surprise and inquire about his actions.
Rather than providing a direct response, Letterman proceeded to suck on the strand until it slipped from his mouth, afterwards handing Aniston a napkin to dry her hair.
In a light-hearted tone, Letterman mentioned that they might edit out the peculiar moment, to which Aniston humorously responded, noting that it was a memorable experience for her.
As Aniston appeared visibly unsettled in the aftermath, Letterman acknowledged her discomfort by commenting that she seemed “traumatized,” to which she replied affirmatively.
Despite attempts to seek clarification on the incident, representatives for Letterman remained silent in response to requests for comments from Insider.
Social media users shared varied reactions to the resurfaced interview between Letterman and Aniston, with some expressing bewilderment at the unexpected nature of the interaction, while others criticized it as an unwarranted invasion of Aniston's personal space.
Though over two decades have passed since Aniston's appearance on the “Late Show” in 1998, the rediscovery of this incident online in 2021 has led many individuals to witness it for the first time, prompting discussions and reflections on the dynamics of celebrity interviews.
Aniston's stint on the “Late Show” in 1998 was not her sole visit to the late-night program, as she revisited the show on multiple occasions in the years following the hair-sucking incident, showcasing her continued engagement with the television host.
