Debbie Reynolds, the renowned actress and singer, recently opened up about her past relationship with Elizabeth Taylor and the time when Taylor stole her husband, Eddie Fisher.
Reynolds and Fisher were married until their divorce in 1959, but their split was far from amicable as Fisher left Reynolds for Taylor that same year.
In a candid interview with People magazine, Reynolds revealed details about her friendship with Taylor before and after the infamous incident over five decades ago.
Despite the betrayal, Reynolds reminisced about the time when she and Taylor were close friends.
Their bond began during their school days at MGM, where they both attended classes.
At the age of 17, Reynolds joined MGM and found herself in awe of Taylor, who was already an established star.
Despite their differences, Reynolds admired Taylor and cherished their friendship.
However, their relationship took a turn when Taylor decided to take Fisher away from Reynolds without any invitation or prior notice.
“We were friends for years and years,” Reynolds shared with People magazine.
“But we had a lapse of time when she took Eddie to live with her because she liked him, too.
She liked him well enough to take him without an invitation!”
Despite the initial hurt and betrayal, Reynolds and Taylor eventually reconciled before Taylor's passing in 2011.
Reynolds recounted a moment of forgiveness during a cruise ship journey, where they both happened to be aboard.
“Elizabeth and I went on a cruise ship and we were on the same boat… She sent a note to me and I sent a note to her to say ‘Let's just forget about it,'” Reynolds revealed during an interview with Access Hollywood in 2013.
This reconciliation occurred sometime in the late 1960s or early 1970s, when Taylor was married to Richard Burton and Reynolds was married to Harry Karl.
Reynolds, known for her remarkable contributions to the entertainment industry, will be honored with a lifetime achievement award at the upcoming SAG event this Sunday.
This recognition serves as a testament to her enduring talent and remarkable career.
