Donald Sutherland Refutes Claims of Authenticity in Don’t Look Now s=x Scene

Legendary actor has vehemently dismissed the long-standing speculation that his intimate scene with Julie Christie in the 1973 classic film “Don't Look Now” was genuine.

At the New York premiere of his latest movie, “The Leisure Seeker,” the 82-year-old actor adamantly labeled those suggesting otherwise as ‘foolish.'

Sutherland clarified that the notion of a real s=x scene in “Don't Look Now” was unfeasible.

He emphasized that each filming sequence lasted no more than 15 seconds before halting to allow adjustments in positioning, making any authentic intimacy impossible.

Despite the provocative nature of the scene, Sutherland revealed that the filming process was far from sensual.

He expressed his admiration for the scene, noting how it evoked the essence of lovemaking, although the practicalities of filming disrupted any romantic ambiance.

The controversial scene in question, initially met with shock upon release, was hailed as one of the boldest love portrayals captured on film.

Its explicit content led to censorship challenges in both Britain, where it earned an X-rating, and the United States, where it was restricted to an R-rating.

The BBC went as far as completely excising the contentious scene when airing the film on British television, underscoring the ongoing controversy surrounding its authenticity.

Fueling the persistent rumors were claims made by former Paramount executive Peter Bart in his 2011 publication, perpetuating the belief in the scene's reality.

Michael Deeley, responsible for overseeing the film's distribution in the UK, disclosed in 2008 that , Christie's boyfriend at the time, had flown to London to demand the removal of the controversial scene, further adding to the intrigue surrounding its authenticity.

, who has been fiercely protective of the film, criticized the idea of a potential remake back in 2015, denouncing it as a profit-driven venture that tarnishes the legacy of director Nicolas Roeg's masterpiece.

Expressing disdain for those seeking financial gains through such endeavors, Sutherland conveyed his disappointment in the exploitation of art for commercial purposes.

In his latest project, “The Leisure Seeker,” Sutherland stars alongside Helen Mirren in a poignant narrative depicting a married couple embarking on a soul-stirring road trip before confronting the realities of Alzheimer's and cancer.

The film explores themes of love, loss, and the enduring bond between
