In a custody battle between pop star Mel B and her ex-husband Stephen Belafonte, it has been claimed that Eddie Murphy, Mel B's former partner, is not interested in having a relationship with their daughter Angel Iris.
Eddie, a well-known celebrity, had previously denied being Angel's father, but DNA tests have proven otherwise.
Mel B appeared in LA's Superior Court yesterday to face off against Stephen, who is seeking step-parent rights to see their 10-year-old daughter.
However, Stephen's lawyer, Grace Jamra, stated that she has been unable to reach Eddie, Angel's biological father, to discuss the step-parent request.
According to Jamra, “Mr. Murphy has had no contact with the child.”
She also revealed that Stephen's lawyer had attempted to serve legal papers to Eddie, but he had managed to avoid being served.
Stephen claims that Angel has always referred to him as “dad” and believes he should have step-parent visitation rights since he has been involved in raising her since birth.
Mel, on the other hand, refuses to allow Stephen to see their middle child, even though he has joint custody of their youngest daughter, Madison.
Stephen is also the step-father to Mel's eldest child, Phoenix Chi.
Mel, aged 42, was brought back to court by Stephen, also 42, over allegations that she has been violating their joint custody agreement.
He insists that he should be allowed to see Angel because Eddie shows no interest in forming a father-child bond with her.
This development comes after a California judge ruled that Stephen can apply for step-visitation rights to Angel.
Stephen's lawyer, Michael Hanasab, argued that Stephen has been the primary caregiver for Angel since she was an infant.
Mel previously attempted to prevent Angel's name from being included in their divorce proceedings, hoping to protect her from becoming a media spectacle.
However, her request was rejected by the court.
