Eton College, a renowned institution with an illustrious alumni list that includes leaders, celebrities, and distinguished personalities, once housed both Prince William and Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne.
In the late 90s, these two notable figures shared the corridors of the boys-only boarding school, forging memories that would later become anecdotes.
Prince Harry, William's younger brother, also traversed the hallowed halls a few years behind them.
Among the snapshots of their shared history are images capturing the duo clad in vibrant waistcoats and engaging in rugby matches on the school grounds.
However, Eddie Redmayne, in a candid revelation, expressed a sense of compassion towards Prince William during their rugby encounters.
He recounted an incident on a US talk show in 2018, where he empathized with William, acknowledging the relentless pursuit by opponents to tackle the future king on the field.
Reflecting on those moments, Eddie confessed, “I always felt a bit sorry for him because basically any school you played, all they wanted to do was tackle Prince William and they could say, ‘I tackled Prince William.'”
Nevertheless, amidst the physical challenges faced by William, Eddie humorously noted that having the prince as a teammate made the game somewhat easier and enjoyable for himself.
Despite their shared past at Eton, it appears that Eddie maintains a distance from the royal sphere, including Prince William and his family.
When queried about attending Prince Harry's wedding, Eddie succinctly responded, “Quick answer… no I wasn't.
It's fine.”
Following their Eton days, Prince William ventured to St Andrews University, where he crossed paths with his future spouse, the Duchess of Cambridge.
In contrast, Eddie pursued a degree in History of Art at Trinity College, Cambridge, before embarking on his successful acting career, culminating in an Oscar win in 2014 for his role as Stephen Hawking in “The Theory of Everything.”
Interestingly, Clara Amfo, a Radio 1 presenter, commended Prince William's acting prowess after collaborating on promotional campaigns for the Earthshot Prize awards, praising his performance in the adverts.
Moreover, rumors abound of William and Harry's cameo appearance as Stormtroopers in the 2017 film “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” alongside actor Tom Hardy.
Regrettably, the scene featuring the royal siblings never made it to the final cut, as disclosed by John Boyega, who portrays Finn in the blockbuster movie.
