Elizabeth Olsen, known for her role as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has faced both success and failure in her acting career.
While she has received critical acclaim for films like Martha Marcy May Marlene and Wind River, she also had a box-office disaster with the 2013 film Oldboy, directed by Spike Lee.
In Oldboy, Olsen was paired opposite her Avengers: Endgame co-star, Josh Brolin.
The movie, an adaptation of a Korean film, received criticism for not living up to the original version.
However, it was the intimate scenes in the film that left Olsen feeling disturbed.
Despite her initial pursuit of the script, Olsen found the morally ambiguous plot of Oldboy unsettling.
In an interview with Wenn, she revealed that she was heartbroken by the story.
However, she praised Spike Lee for his support throughout the filming process.
Olsen explained that Lee addressed the uncomfortable scenes upfront and made sure to discuss boundaries and limitations.
While showing her genitals was off-limits, everything else was fair game.
Olsen also revealed that there were other distressing scenes in the film, including one where she was attacked.
This particular scene had a lasting impact on her, leaving a traumatic mark even days after filming had ended.
Interestingly, Brolin, who has a daughter around Olsen's age, seemed to have a more challenging experience with the s*x scene.
Olsen acknowledged that it was probably weirder for him, given the circumstances.
However, both actors managed to deliver their best performances despite the difficulties they faced.
It's worth noting that Olsen has previously spoken about her approach to love scenes and n^dty in films.
In an interview with Net-A-Porter's digital magazine, The Edit, she expressed that she only chooses to appear n*de in movies when she believes in the artistic merit of the project.
For Olsen, it is not about gratuitous n^dty but rather about telling a more grotesque story and creating an empowering experience.
While Oldboy may have been a box-office disappointment, both Olsen and Brolin have moved on to new projects.
Brolin is set to appear in the upcoming comedy film Brothers, while Olsen has recently completed shooting for her next project, His Three Daughters.
Despite the challenges they faced in Oldboy, these talented actors continue to showcase their skills and versatility in the world of cinema.
