Elvis Presley, the iconic singer, did not pass away from a heart condition as previously believed, according to his doctor, Dr. George “Nick” Nichopoulos.
In a recent book release titled The King and Dr. Nick, the physician disclosed that chronic constipation was the underlying cause of Presley's demise in 1977.
Initially, it was speculated that Presley, at the age of 42, succumbed to cardiac arrhythmia, likely triggered by his reliance on drugs, obesity, and a weakened heart.
However, Dr. Nichopoulos has shed new light on the situation, pointing towards the undiagnosed chronic constipation as the true culprit behind the tragedy.
Following Presley's death, Dr. Nichopoulos delved into further research to ascertain the exact reason behind the singer's passing.
He received insights from various medical professionals engaged in constipation studies, leading to the revelation of the severe extent of Presley's condition that had gone unnoticed during his lifetime.
An autopsy uncovered startling details about Presley's colon, revealing an abnormal diameter of five to six inches compared to the standard two to three inches.
Moreover, the length of his colon was unusually elongated, measuring eight to nine feet instead of the typical four to five feet.
This information highlighted the severity of Presley's untreated constipation issues.
Dr. Nichopoulos expressed remorse over the delayed realization of the seriousness of Presley's constipation problems.
The presence of stool that had accumulated for several months due to bowel motility issues painted a grim picture of the King's health leading up to his untimely death.
In 1975, medical intervention was considered to address Presley's condition through a colostomy procedure, which involved removing a section of the colon.
Plans were underway for the surgery, with discussions held between Dr. Nichopoulos and a surgeon from the University of Memphis.
Unfortunately, Presley's reluctance and embarrassment hindered the progress towards resolving his long-standing health issue.
The doctor recounted instances where Presley faced public mishaps due to his untreated constipation, leading to on-stage accidents and wardrobe changes.
