In the well-known rom-com “When Harry Met Sally,” there is a scene that has been causing embarrassment for Meg Ryan's children.
This famous moment from the 1989 film involves Ryan's character, Sally, demonstrating to Billy Crystal's character, Harry, the art of faking an orgasm in the middle of a crowded deli.
The scene culminates with another diner, played by director Rob Reiner's mother, delivering the iconic line: “I'll have what she's having.”
While this scene is celebrated in cinematic history, Ryan's daughter, Daisy True Ryan, and her son, Jack Quaid, known for starring in “The Boys,” view it with a touch of discomfort.
During a recent conversation with Carol Burnett for Interview magazine, Ryan shared a humorous anecdote about her children's reaction to the scene.
“My son called me this morning from New York, staying at a hotel near Katz's Deli where the scene was shot,” Ryan mentioned.
“My daughter and everyone were on speaker, saying, ‘Mom, this is quite a unique embarrassment.'”
Katz's Delicatessen, an iconic New York establishment with over a century of history, pays homage to the film by featuring a sign that points out the table where the famous scene took place.
The sign humorously references Sally's fake orgasm, inviting visitors to experience what she had.
Despite this recognition, Ryan jokingly questioned whether it was indeed the correct table.
Jack Quaid, Ryan's son from her marriage to Dennis Quaid, has previously expressed mixed feelings about his mother's role in the movie.
He confessed that he only watched “When Harry Met Sally” as an adult, humorously stating, “Guys, when your mother has one of the most famous orgasm scenes of all time, you do not rush to see the film!”
Quaid's sentiments seem to resonate with the rest of the family, as even his sister waited until she was 14 to watch the film, encouraged by their mother's then-fiancé, John Mellencamp.
However, Quaid appreciates the movie and considers it his favorite among his mother's works.
Despite the initial awkwardness, Quaid eventually watched the film and felt overwhelming pride for his mother's performance.
He recalled shedding tears of admiration, prompting him to call his mother immediately afterwards.
“I'm so sorry I missed this movie,” he expressed, to which Ryan responded, “I've seen it maybe once.”
Ryan is set to make her return to romantic comedy alongside David Duchovny in the upcoming movie “What Happens Later,” scheduled for release on Nov. 3.
