Today marks the 60th anniversary of the tragic death of Marilyn Monroe in 1962.
Monroe, who was only 36 years old at the time of her passing, had a remarkable career in Hollywood and became an iconic figure of the Fifties and early-Sixties.
Known for her “blonde bombshell” characters, she quickly rose to become the world's most famous actress, contributing to the era's s**ual revolution.
Despite her immense success, Monroe's death has always been shrouded in mystery.
The official investigation conducted by the Los Angeles County coroner's office concluded that she died from a probable suicide due to a barbiturate overdose.
However, questions have persisted, and her demise made headlines worldwide, leaving the world in mourning for this Golden Globe winner.
One individual who remains convinced that Monroe was not a victim of suicide is Frank Sinatra.
In the book Marilyn Monroe: The Private Life of a Public Icon, author Charles Casillo explores the alleged open relationship between Monroe and Sinatra.
Casillo claims that Sinatra was captivated by Monroe and treated her like no other woman before.
He writes, “Like many men, Frank Sinatra fell under her spell.
He treated her like he had never treated any other woman.
He was very protective of her.”
According to the book, Sinatra's love for Monroe was so strong that he intended to propose to her.
However, his lawyer intervened and put an end to Sinatra's plans.
Some, including Sinatra's close friend Tony Oppedinsano, argue that their relationship was purely platonic.
Oppedinsano states, “Frank felt she was too troubled, too fragile, for him to sleep with and then walk away.”
Nevertheless, when Monroe's death was ruled as suicide, Sinatra was devastated.
Oppedinsano reveals that Monroe had intended to disclose the details of her relationship with US President John F. Kennedy during a press conference, and Sinatra firmly believed that this revelation led to her untimely demise.
He states, “Frank believed if the press conference hadn't been announced, she would have lived a lot longer.
Frank believed she was murdered, and he never got over it.”
In a recent interview with Fox News, Oppedinsano reaffirmed Sinatra's deep affection for Monroe, saying that she held a special place in his heart.
The legacy of Marilyn Monroe continues to captivate audiences around the world.
Her talent, beauty, and tragic end have cemented her status as one of Hollywood's greatest stars.
As we remember her on this anniversary, the mystery surrounding her death remains, leaving us to wonder what truly happened to the iconic Marilyn Monroe.
