In the year 1964, the FBI sent a notification to then-Attorney General Robert “Bobby” Kennedy regarding an upcoming book that claimed to disclose his purported involvement with Marilyn Monroe.
The author, known for making controversial claims, released a 70-page book priced at $2 per copy, as revealed by the Bureau.
This revelation stems from the declassification of more than 2,800 files related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
During the summer of 1964, the FBI dedicated two weeks to investigating a tip provided by author Frank Capell, who planned to publish a book detailing Bobby Kennedy's alleged affair with Marilyn Monroe and implicating him and the Kennedy family in her death.
The disclosure emerged from the release of previously classified documents associated with President John F. Kennedy's assassination in November 1963, authorized by President Donald Trump.
Speculations have long circulated about Bobby Kennedy's rumored affair with Monroe following JFK's alleged introduction of her to his brother.
Capell's book, titled “The Strange Death of Marilyn Monroe,” raised questions about Bobby Kennedy's intentions and suggested drastic actions taken due to potential threats posed by Monroe's knowledge.
Accusations were made against Kennedy, linking him to the Communist Conspiracy and implying involvement in Monroe's demise through calculated means.
According to official records, the FBI dismissed claims of an affair between Kennedy and Monroe at the time of her passing, labeling such allegations as unfounded.
Monroe was found deceased on August 5, 1962, with the coroner attributing the cause to a probable suicide resulting from a drug overdose.
FBI memos refuted assertions of Kennedy's presence during Monroe's death, clarifying that he was in San Francisco with his wife at the time.
FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover forwarded a copy of Capell's book to Kennedy, referencing claims of a close relationship between Kennedy and Monroe as presented in the book.
In response to Sen. Frank Church's request, the FBI disclosed materials concerning communications between Hoover and Robert Kennedy related to Capell's book on Marilyn Monroe, which were eventually released to the public under the JFK Assassination Records Collection Act of 1992.
