Emilia Clarke, known for her role as queen Daenerys Targaryen in the popular series Game of Thrones, recently opened up about the challenges she faced while filming certain n^de scenes for the show.
The British actress, who was just 23 when she joined the cast of the HBO fantasy epic, admitted feeling uneasy about the explicit portrayal of s=x and violence that the series was known for.
In a candid conversation on actor Dax Shepard's podcast Armchair Expert, Clarke revealed the emotional turmoil she experienced before shooting some of the “terrifying” n^de sequences.
She recalled how reading the scripts initially caught her off guard, realizing the demands that came with the role.
Having come straight from drama school, Clarke approached the job professionally, viewing the n^dty as a necessary aspect of the character and storyline.
Despite her determination to make sense of the scenes, she found herself overwhelmed by the unfamiliar environment of being on a film set in the nude, unsure of expectations and feeling inadequate.
Reflecting on her early days on set, Clarke shared her struggles with imposter syndrome, feeling unworthy and unprepared for the demands placed on her as an actress.
However, she praised her co-star Jason Momoa, who played Khal Drogo, for his support and guidance during difficult scenes.
Clarke recounted a particular moment in season one where her character is subjected to a distressing scene with Momoa's character, noting Momoa's empathy and professionalism in handling the sensitive material.
She emphasized Momoa's caring attitude towards ensuring her comfort and well-being on set, highlighting his experience and protective nature.
In the years since Game of Thrones, Clarke mentioned that she has become more assertive and confident in setting boundaries regarding n^dty in her work.
She recalled instances where she had to stand firm on her decisions regarding modesty on set, despite pressure from others to cater to fan expectations.
As Clarke navigates her career post-Game of Thrones, she expressed gratitude for the lessons learned on set and the growth she has experienced in asserting her needs as an actress.
She acknowledged the importance of feeling empowered and comfortable in her work environment, advocating for respect and consideration in all aspects of filmmaking.
Efforts to reach out to HBO and the show's creators for comments on Clarke's revelations have been made, although no responses have been received at this time.
