Geena Davis, reflecting on her early days in the film industry, shared a remarkable incident during the shooting of the 1982 film Tootsie.
In a recent interview with The New Yorker, she disclosed how her co-star Dustin Hoffman would offer her advice in between takes.
Hoffman, known for his mentorship, suggested to Davis a clever response to deter unwanted advances from fellow actors.
Hoffman's counsel to Davis was straightforward yet strategic.
He recommended that if faced with a proposition, she could tactfully reply, “Well, you're very attractive.
I would love to, but it would ruin the s**ual tension between us.”
This advice came in handy for Davis soon after when she found herself in a surprising situation with Hollywood icon Jack Nicholson.
Recalling the memorable encounter, Davis recounted how her modeling agent introduced her to Nicholson during a visit to Hollywood following the success of Tootsie.
Nicholson, known for his charm, took a keen interest in Davis and even left a note for her to contact him.
When Nicholson inquired about their potential rendezvous, Davis skillfully employed Hoffman's suggested response, which pleasantly surprised the legendary actor.
In her recently published memoir titled Dying of Politeness, Davis also shed light on the unpleasant experiences she faced while working with co-star Bill Murray on the set of Quick Change in 1990.
She detailed instances of alleged harassment and verbal abuse, including Murray's insistence on her trying out a massage device despite her repeated refusals.
Moreover, Murray's behavior towards Davis on set extended to moments of intense outbursts, as she described being subjected to his shouting during filming.
These incidents highlighted the challenges and discomfort faced by Davis in navigating certain interactions within the industry.
Interestingly, Murray, who had shared the screen with both Hoffman and Davis in Tootsie, had previously come to Hoffman's defense amidst allegations of s**ual misconduct in 2018.
During a public appearance at New York City's 92nd Street Y, Murray expressed his support for Hoffman, portraying him as a quirky yet kind individual with a penchant for playful banter.
The interconnected narratives of Davis' encounters with Hoffman, Nicholson, and Murray provide a glimpse into the complexities of relationships and power dynamics in the realm of Hollywood.
Davis' ability to assert herself and handle delicate situations with grace underscores her resilience and determination in an industry marked by challenges and uncertainties.
