Gianni Russo, known for his role in the iconic film “The Godfather” and his connections to the mafia, recently participated in a sting operation.
However, instead of meeting at Louis Restaurant in the Bronx, the rendezvous took place at Park West Tavern in Ridgewood, a family-friendly establishment where everyone minds their own business.
The goal was simple: to capture everything on tape.
In the videos available on this page, you can witness Russo divulging intriguing details.
He opens up about his alleged affair with Marilyn Monroe and his wild parties alongside John F. Kennedy.
Russo also claims to have delivered a significant sum of money that played a part in the supposed mob-influenced assassination of J.F.K.
In November 1963, he brought back a message to mob boss Frank Costello, stating, “Tell Frank it's on.”
Additionally, Russo shares his experiences while working on the set of “The Godfather,” the renowned 1972 mob movie in which he portrayed Carlo Rizzi, the ill-fated son-in-law of the Godfather.
All these captivating stories, along with many others that are equally tantalizing yet unverifiable, are featured in his new book titled “Hollywood Godfather: My Life in the Movies and in the Mob.”
Published by St. Martin's Press, Russo came to Bookends on Wednesday to promote his memoir.
However, NorthJersey.com and the USA TODAY NETWORK New Jersey desired more than just Russo's words.
They sought an authentic confession, captured and recorded.
To accomplish this, the plan was straightforward: find a quiet restaurant, offer some drinks to help him relax, and dress formally when meeting someone involved in organized crime as a sign of respect.
Of course, a hidden microphone was also part of the equation.
Although Russo is no fool, the team behind the operation proved to be one step ahead.
They successfully convinced him to reveal everything.
This serves as a reminder that crime ultimately doesn't pay.
Russo's book, “Hollywood Godfather: My Life in the Movies and in the Mob,” is now available for purchase at bookstores for $29.99.
