In a shocking revelation made in her final memoir, The Princess Diarist, Carrie Fisher disclosed that she had been involved in an affair with Harrison Ford during the filming of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope in 1977.
At the time, Fisher was just 19 years old, with minimal film experience and few friends in London.
Ford, on the other hand, was 33 and married to Mary Marquardt, with whom he had two children.
The affair began after a birthday party for George Lucas, where Fisher found herself captivated by Ford's noble and furrowed brow.
Despite her inexperience, Fisher trusted something about Ford, finding him to be kind.
As she began promoting her memoir, the world became fixated on her three-month affair with Ford.
To her credit, she informed Ford in advance about the chapter, expressing that she wouldn't have blindsided him, but acknowledging that it might still feel like an ambush.
She recounted their conversation, explaining how she assured Ford that she wouldn't publish anything he didn't approve of, even though she recognizes that she has already made him uncomfortable.
Throughout Fisher's press tour, Ford, who is notoriously private, remained silent despite numerous requests for comment from various media outlets.
Following Fisher's passing in December, Ford released a statement reminiscing about the memories they shared, without explicitly mentioning their romantic involvement.
Now, ten months later, Ford is finally speaking out about Fisher's memoir in an interview for GQ's October issue.
He admits that the situation felt strange for him and confirms that he did receive some advance warning from Fisher.
However, he states that he doesn't want to discuss the matter further due to Fisher's untimely death.
Ford declines to disclose whether he wished Fisher had kept their affair private.
When asked if he read her bestselling book, he straightforwardly responds, “No.
I didn't.”
Ford expresses that he doesn't concern himself with how others perceive him unless he is in their presence.
He expects both criticism and unwarranted praise, considering it a natural part of being in the public eye.
As for his legacy, Ford asserts that he isn't bothered by it, deeming it unnecessary.
According to him, life is about living and eventually dying, while films continue to exist beyond one's own lifespan.
Ultimately, Ford states that he doesn't care about his legacy, as he believes that it was good while it lasted during his lifetime.
