In a new book by royal correspondent Valentine Low, claims have emerged about a pair of controversial earrings worn by Meghan during her 2018 tour of Oceania with Prince Harry.
The Duchess of Sussex first wore the chandelier diamond earrings during their visit to Fiji in October 2018, just months after their wedding at St George's Chapel in Windsor.
These earrings were also seen at a state dinner hosted by Fiji President Jioji Konrote on October 23, 2018.
Meghan paired the diamonds with a thin bracelet and her wedding and engagement rings.
A few weeks later, she wore the same earrings to the birthday party of the then Prince of Wales.
At the time, it was reported that the earrings had been borrowed, but Kensington Palace did not disclose who had given them to Meghan, sparking curiosity among royal watchers.
According to a source cited by Mr. Low, the aides of the Sussexes chose not to address the issue with the royals, fearing their reaction.
It was only after Meghan wore the earrings for the second time that an aide decided to discuss their origin with Prince Harry.
The excerpt from the book claims that Harry was “shocked” that people knew where the earrings came from.
However, the lawyers representing the Duke and Duchess deny that Harry was ever questioned about the earrings' provenance.
In February 2021, Meghan and Harry's law firm, Schillings, argued that Meghan had no knowledge of Sheikh Mohammed's involvement in Khashoggi's murder.
The firm also contested claims made last year that Meghan had told her staff the earrings were borrowed from a jeweler.
Instead, they clarified that gifts from heads of state to the Royal Family are presented to Queen Elizabeth II, who can choose to lend them to other members of the family.
Meghan joined the Royal Family after marrying Prince Harry on May 19, 2018.
The couple met in the summer of 2016 and have since stepped back as working royals.
