Disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein has denied the accusations made against him by actress Salma Hayek in a recent essay.
Hayek described Weinstein as a “monster” who allegedly harassed her s–ually and made threats on her life.
A representative for the producer informed the BBC that Hayek's claims were not truthful.
In a piece for the New York Times, Hayek portrayed Weinstein as a complex individual – someone who was both a film enthusiast and a horrifying presence in her life.
Hayek, aged 51, detailed the incidents where Weinstein allegedly made unwelcome advances towards her during the filming of “Frida,” a 2002 biopic about Mexican artist Frida Kahlo produced by Miramax, the company co-founded by Weinstein and his brother.
Despite Hayek's acclaimed performance in the movie, she asserts that Weinstein exploited his authority to pressure her into compromising situations.
She disclosed instances where Weinstein persistently pursued her, attempted to gain access to her hotel room, pressured her for s–ual favors, and demanded to watch her shower.
According to Hayek, each time she rejected Weinstein's advances, he responded with anger and threats.
Hayek recounted an occasion where Weinstein purportedly threatened her life, stating, “I will kill you, don't think I can't.”
Weinstein's spokesperson contradicted Hayek's version of events, citing differing perspectives from eyewitnesses present during the incidents.
Hayek further alleged that Weinstein used intimidation tactics to coerce her into filming a graphic s=x scene with Ashley Judd, another individual who later accused Weinstein of misconduct.
Hayek described her distress while filming the scene, revealing that she had to take medication to cope with the emotional turmoil.
The spokesperson defended the inclusion of the s=x scene in the movie, stating it was relevant due to Frida Kahlo's bisexuality, as reported by NBC.
The controversy surrounding Weinstein and his alleged mistreatment of women continues to unfold, with more individuals coming forward to share their experiences with the once-powerful Hollywood figure.
The repercussions of these revelations have reverberated throughout the entertainment industry, prompting discussions about abuse of power and misconduct.
