Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced movie producer, received a 23-year prison sentence on Wednesday following convictions for rape and criminal s=x acts.
Over 80 women, including many from the entertainment industry, have accused Weinstein of s–ual assault and harassment, with six women testifying against him during the trial.
In the days leading up to his sentencing, new details emerged implicating another prominent actress in the case – Jennifer Aniston.
Recently unsealed documents from 2017 shed light on correspondence between Weinstein and others.
In an email dated October 2017, Weinstein was prompted to address claims made by The National Enquirer regarding Aniston.
The tabloid alleged that during the production of the 2005 film ‘Derailed', Aniston had confided in a friend about Weinstein s–ually assaulting her by making unwanted physical advances.
However, a representative for Aniston denied these allegations.
While it remains uncertain whether Weinstein replied to the National Enquirer's email, he did respond to a query from the Miami New Times concerning Aniston, stating that she “should be killed.”
Aniston's spokesperson swiftly refuted the claims, asserting that the actress had never been alone with Weinstein and had not experienced any form of harassment or assault from him.
Notably, Aniston had not joined other high-profile actresses in accusing Weinstein of s–ual misconduct, which played a pivotal role in sparking the #MeToo movement.
During the trial, actress Annabella Sciorra testified that Weinstein had raped her in the mid-1990s, with her friend Rosie Perez corroborating her account.
Perez disclosed that Sciorra refrained from reporting the incident to authorities out of fear of retaliation.
Further revelations from the unsealed documents unveiled Weinstein's attempts to seek assistance from various influential figures like Tim Cook, Jeff Bezos, and Michael Bloomberg following the public outcry over the allegations against him.
In a message to Bloomberg, Weinstein pleaded for support to undergo therapy and counseling in a bid to salvage his reputation.
Weinstein's recent conviction included charges of raping Jessica Mann in a New York City hotel room in 2013 and committing a criminal s=x act against former production assistant Mimi Haley in 2006.
The imposed sentence mandated him to serve a minimum of 23 years behind bars, ensuring that he would be 90 years old upon completion of his term.
